Arizona/Nevada Trip

Good Morning,

Mom and I finished our travels into Arizona and Nevada. We had a great time, and didn't have any break downs while we traveled somewhere between 5 to 6 hundred miles on dirt roads. Here are the links to the pictures that we took on our travels.

Merry Just Before Christmas

Hi Family,

I think this is called panic week. Normally the week we take off for our anniversary leaves me rested and relaxed and ready for the Holidays. This one didn't work out quite that way. For those of you who haven't heard I decided to test my gymnastic skills and did the splits (Yes, I did manage to get all the way down) Only problem I couldn't get back up, "old" muscles don't stretch they tear and now I am hopping along like Festus on Gun Smoke. Which means I am moving very slow and it's hard to panic in slow motion.

I'm looking forward to seeing each of you over the next couple of weeks. Its soooooooo strange to have the family spread out all over. I keep telling Dad we need to retired and hit the road. We could start in Wendover, head to Phoenix, come north throught Moab and then west to Colorado Springs the head home. We could spend a day or two with each of you, rest up and do chores at home and then start over.

Merry Christmas!

Good Morning All!

Thanks Melissa, you said exactly what I was thinking. I didn't want to look like I was totally trying to hog the blog! Hey, I'm a poet and I didn't even know it! Melissa - I sent you the link for the pictures - maybe I have your e-mail wrong? Will you let me know what it is? You can send it to either of my e-mail addresses - ecartermjg@yahoo.com or wnecarter@peppermillcas.com.

Rick, Mom and Brenda drew names a while ago. For brother and sisters, you and Kassie have Dad and Melissa and for the cousins you and Kassie have Josh and Brenda.

Now, for the really exciting news! Ryker has the chicken pox. This is not really exciting, since I took way too much time off of work last week due to Santa's Secret Shop (PTO crap) and then Weight Watchers Leadership training at the end of the week. Jerrick has already had the flu this week and Gunnar has had a cold sore on the back of his mouth. It's not exactly been my week! I guess it all comes in threes (right?) - hopefully this is the end! The worst of all of this is that Ryker has had the shot. So much for vaccines!

We are excited for the family Christmas party but I'm a little worried that Ryker might still be contagious. Brooke - have your girls had the chicken pox or the shot? Does anyone have Heather's e-mail address? I think Lily is the only one that would be at that critical age?

Hope all is well with all of you! Have a great day!

Emily

Mountain Lion Facts

Don,

Mountain lions can get to be 180 pounds but the average is about 130 pounds. They usually live anywhere from 8 to 12 years. They can eat a deer a week, they figure there are about 2,000 mountain lions in Nevada. You can get two tags a year - but they usually only fill 150 tags a year in the state of Nevada. 150 pound cat in Nevada is a very large size - the length at 7 feet 3 inches was above average. The average length is 6 feet 10 inches. How they measure cats is by measuring the width and length of the skull. 15 inches is Boone and Crocket and anything above 14 is eligible for the Nevada hunt book. My cat should be just over 14 inches, but probably won't be 15.

I plan on putting the lion in the living room downstairs on a pedastool where I can worship it on Sundays!

Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty

Hey Jared,

Wow, what a cat! For most of us that don't know how big the lions get, fill us in on how big they get. Where are you going to put the lion in your house? How many cats are you allowed each year? Oh, the cat looks better than any old fish you can mount and hang on your wall.

Finally . . . a Mountain Lion

Emily:
After two days of freezing temperatures, getting up at 5 a.m., and hiking up mountains Jared finally got a mountain lion. This pride and joy measures 7 feet 2 inches and weights a whopping 150 pounds. Jared felt every pound as he help drag him down the mountain with his friends, Zane and Shawn. As his wife, this is all I really needed to know . . . he was absolutely stoked and drove it around town to 'appointments' showing it off. He attracted quite the crowd when he showed up at the HR building. Every employee coming or going or working in the building seemed to come out. It was quite the scene! The grand plan is to do a full body mount (I may have to mortgage some of my children) and show the mountain lion off, somewhere in my house. I have visions of my children seeing which one will be the first one to get a ride! We may have to dedicate a 'trophy' room (Monica shouldn't mind sharing with the boys!). All of us were really excited that dad finally got his lion!
Jared:
I finally caught a lion! On Wednesday I went hunting by myself in frigid 18 below temperatures, or so it felt. I came upon a track after 5 hours of searching - after following the track I found a deer kill that had been buried by a lion. I sent the dogs out but didn't have any luck. But me being the genius that I am, knew that the lion would return to eat his venison buffet. Thursday (which is today), we went to check to see if the deer had been disturbed. I had brushed out the tracks on Wednesday and the deer had been pulled out of the dirt and had been mostly eaten (the deer was a small two point - by the way). We found a fresh track and we let the dogs go on the track. After going over several ridges, we ended up on top of the Pequop Mountain at about 7,937 feet elevation (serious). After hyperventilating due to lack of oxygen we found the dogs and they had treed the lion - in a tree 15 feet tall. We watched the dogs for 45 minutes or so and we decided that it was time to end the life of the cat. It was a 3 to 1 vote - the cat's vote carrying the least amount of weight. The only good position to shoot the lion (cat) was directly underneath him, this presents a danger, because after shooting him, he could fall on me. My friends didn't seem too concerned about that thought. So I decided to take the shot. (Emily's opinion - What the heck was he thinking - what kind of friends let you shoot a lion 'hoping' that it won't fall on you - perhaps this is the most obvious reason I have absolutely no desire to participate in this amazing show of sportsmanship . . .) Jared continued . . . I loaded up my trusty Glock 45 and shot him. The bullet entered his check and went out through the back, by his spine, he fell a little bit and I shot him again, he fell a little bit more and I shot him again. Then he jumped out of the tree and ran about 100 yards down the hill and then dropped dead. The dogs malled him and pulled him down the hill about 100 more yards - I had to go tie a rope so they wouldn't take it any further down the hill. Then the hard work began. We had to pull it up about 250 yards up the hill (a very steep mountain), we thought it weighed 400 pounds. It took three grown men, two others that were must stronger than myself, to pull it up the hill in 5 yard increments. As we reached the summit we pushed him down the hill and rode him like a sled. It ended up weighing 150 pounds and was 7 foot 2 inches long. His paws were about 5 inches in diameter. Same size as my hand. It was a very good day.
Emily:
Does anyone else understand now, why I really don't want to hear what happens! Somethings are better left up to your own imagination - or lack of!
We hope you all enjoy the pictures. Jared has video to show the next time we are together. Be sure to bring your motion sickness medicine because you will be sick from watching!

Greetings from Phoenix

Hello all! Just wanted to stop by and say hi. Phoenix is getting colder. Last week we were in the high 80's and this morning it was 35 at my house. I thought I was going to die! However, it is going to warm up to 65 by this afternoon. Also, it is suppose to warm up again by the end of the week. EMILY or DAN-Will you please email me the Christmas pics of the kids you guys took so I can have them on my computer? Just an FYI for everyone. I am flying in on Wednesday the 20th and leaving Christmas day. I hope everyone is doing well!

Thanksgiving Travels

Wow,

Our Thanksgiving travels went from Steamboat Springs with Rick & Kassie, to West Wendover with Emily's family & Mike & Brenda, then on to Moab with Dan & Brooke. Now the only one we missed was Melissa. I guess we need to made a larger swing to make it down to Arizona.

We arrvied back home late Saturday night. The roads were all great and most of the people on the roads were polite. We stopped in Price to fill up on the way home and when we hit I15 at Spanish Fork the highway was packed. It seems like everyone was on there way home.

While in Moab, Dan took me on the Moab Rim trail. The trail wasn't very long, but very steep. I got some good film footage from the trip, and I will try to get it posted in the next couple of days.

Hey Dan!

Loved the picture! I e-mailed the pictures that I took of the kids to your e-mail. Will you let Brooke know that they're there. I can order them whenever - I just need to know which ones she likes the best! Good luck today!

Happy Day After Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We had a nice time (mostly because the boys were very well behaved at the Buffet yesterday!). We had a nice visit with Brenda and Mike and the boys - I even managed to re-create Grandma Cressall's roll recipe! We celebrated Ryker's birthday yesterday too - it's not really his birthday until Saturday, but since we had family here we went for the gusto! It's hard to believe that he is already 2 - wow - the time flies by! I'll be digging out the Christmas decorations later today and when Jared gets the house all decorated I'll post pictures. He definately goes all out and our electric bill quadruples! We love it though! Have a great day!

Test Picture and Hi.

This is my first try at this.... I hope that I am soing it right.

It is the day after t day... and I am at work. In retail, this day is known as "BLACK FRIDAY" because of all the crazy sales and the crazier shoppers.

Anyway, this picture was taken a few weeks ago in Kane creek road. The hole was a little deeper than I thought it was. (remember that my tires stand 36" tall.... Baili, that means 3 feet.) Dana was a little upset about sitting in the water....

Thanksgiving

Me and Kassie are having a very relaxed thanksgiving so far. We're going over to some friends later on tonight for some turkey, but until then I don't think we're going to bother getting ready for anything. I made some scones last night - unfortunately the oil had gone half bad. Seeing as though we'd already made the batter and didn't want to go out, we used it anyways. It actually worked quite well. Was a bit smelly while making them, But they tasted just fine. I just watched one of our Cats, Sam, Chase down a fly and eat him. He quite good at it apparently.

Motorcycle

Hi Melissa,

Yo! Hey motorcycle mama! Do you have a death wish? or are you going through a second childhood? ;-)

Dad
Hi Family, this should be a great way to keep up on all the news. Melissa, wear you helmet even going 25 mph.

Trying new things

Last Wednseday I bought a 2003 Suzuki GSXR 750. Which translates to "Crotch Rocket." Well, that's what everyone called it in Logan. The only remote experience I have to riding a motorcycle by myself is that little homemade one with the lawnmover engine that Baili and I used to ride in the field. But this one has a LOT more power and is much larger. The day I got it I practiced letting the clutch out with the gas and slowly rolled forward. (Just like Dad taught us to drive manual in the corrolla) On Saturday I was able to get brave enough to pick my feet off the ground. I went 25 mph and shifted to third gear. I was so excited. I just thought I would share in my triumph of not falling over or hitting any parked cars. This is definately going to be a slow learning process. I hope all is well. Happy Turkey Week!

First Family Blog

Good Morning,

It's Tuesday morning, November 21, 2006. Last week we spent the weekend with Rick and Kassie. Rick just returned from Iraq last week and we are happy to have him home and safe. We stayed in Steam Boat Springs in our Condo. This was an early Thanksgiving because Rick and Kassie can't make it back home to be with family.
We had a great time and Baili took us out shopping. She was frustrated with me because she says, "you talk to everyone." We drove home on Sunday on I80. I'm glad it was good weather! Michelle arrived home from being in Hawaii for the last week with Taylor. She has a great sun tan and must have enjoyed the sun.
